Killer darts rules

In Killer, each player is given a number on the board and a number of lives (usually 3). You first have to hit the double of your own number to become a "killer". Once you're a killer, every double of an opponent's number you hit takes a life from them. The last player with a life left wins. It's the perfect bar game for 4, 6 or 8 players.

Choosing numbers

Each player throws one dart with their weaker hand (or numbers are drawn at random): the number hit becomes theirs. Two players can't share a number; if it happens, throw again.

Becoming a killer

Until you're a killer, aim at the double of your own number. As soon as you hit it you become a killer and can attack the others, sometimes with the remaining darts of the same turn.

Knocking players out

  • A killer who hits an opponent's double takes one of their lives.
  • A player with no lives left is out.
  • Depending on house rules, a killer who hits their own double also loses a life.
  • The last player with at least one life wins.

Variants

Singles instead of doubles

For beginners: any hit on the number counts, which makes the game much faster.

Trebles take two lives

A treble takes two lives (or gives two back to its owner, depending on the table).

Earning lives

Start on zero and hit your number several times to build up your lives before becoming a killer.

Common mistakes

  • Not agreeing on the "own double" rule before the game: it's the most common cause of arguments.
  • Going after the leader when a player on one life is easier to knock out.

Frequently asked questions

How many lives in Killer?

Usually three, five for a longer game. Everyone starts with the same number.

What if a killer hits their own double?

It depends on house rules: they lose a life, or nothing happens. Agree before you start.
